Our Story

I started making cakes after my son’s first birthday cake disaster! It was then, that I realized that red frosting requires a lot more than just a few drops of red food coloring. At that moment I decided to venture into the world of cake decorating! I loved making cakes for my children, family, and friends.

A year went by and the business started to grow. It was wonderful to be home with my children doing something I loved, but I needed help. I had met Alaina a few years prior at a mother’s group. We had children similar ages, were both stay at home moms, and had a mutual love of creativity and food!

Alaina was over one day visiting with her kids and we got talking about how I needed help. I asked her if she had any interest in working with me and she thankfully said, yes! After, that moment Alaina caught the “bug” as I like to call it, and I could tell she was just as passionate about Sweetened Memories. Not only was she helpful with prepping me to complete orders she quickly took on getting me organized with, well everything.

It didn’t take us long to see that Alaina’s strength was with organization and management, and my expertise was design and decorating. We both have a passion for design, dessert and the creative process. Most importantly, we have fun and love to laugh. When Alaina came on board is when it truly “all began”.
Over the last few years our team has grown, and we now have a fantastic group of women who are incredibly talented both personally and professionally taking this sweet journey with us! If it weren’t for the energy and passion of every person on our team, we simply couldn’t make it happen.

Almost 6 years later we are no longer out of my home, but still right in downtown Durham. Our little ones are growing up, and all in school now, so it’s a perfect time for us to grow and open a storefront!
